What is Iodine?
Iodine is a mineral that has a multitude of uses. Commonly, Iodine is used in medicinal and surgical applications, such as X-ray, ultrasound and nuclear imaging scans. It is also used to produce iodine supplements in the form of liquid Iodine. Iodine is even used in industrial and commercial settings. Iodide salts are used in Disinfectants for its antimicrobial properties against viruses, bacteria and fungi. It is also used in printing inks and dyes, catalysts (primarily in Tall oil, rosins, adhesives and other wood products) and Photographic chemicals. Iodine is also used in the process of making polarizing filters for LCD (Liquid-Crystal Display), such as those used for tv’s, computer screens, etc.
